Cubs & White Sox in the Swing of Spring

Baseball season is here! Congrats to the Cubs and White Sox for dominating their first two games!

What better way to celebrate the opening season than with a huge THANK YOU to the Robert R. McCormick Foundation’s Cubs Care and White Sox Charities programs! Chicago’s professional baseball teams are a huge supporter of youth baseball and softball in Chicago’s parks. Chicago Parks Foundation (CPF) is thrilled to continue this partnership with our amazing teams and wish them luck in the coming season! Together with the Chicago Park District (CPD) we continue to serve over 50,000 young people in baseball and softball programs per year.

CPF, Cubs Care, White Sox Charities, and CPD work together to bring a variety of programs to over 80 parks in Chicago, serving youth ages 9 to 12. We work specifically with Cubs Care to bring Rookie League Programs, Cubs Girls Fast Pitch RBI Softball, Special Recreation, and Special Olympics to parks across the city. The Cubs and White Sox graciously provide funding for Inner City Youth Baseball programs that function in 32 parks across the city.

Last year, the Inner City Youth Baseball Programs culminated in the 2015 Play Ball Chicago Tournament—the first citywide baseball and softball tournament. Leagues from across the city were able to come together and compete. Afterwards, the teams were served dinner and watched a movie to promote engagement between kids and communities.

Time to get out into our parks and play ball, Chicago!
