Run for the Parks with the IL Brewery Running Series
The Chicago Parks Foundation is proud to be the official 2017 charity partner of the IL Brewery Running Series. 10% of the series' profit will directly benefit the parks that Chicagoans run in every day.
The Brewery Running Series was founded by Nate Herrington and Morgan Jappe in 2012 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for people who simply love beer, running, and giving back. Since then the series has expanded to 6 other states, including Illinois, and has donated over $41,000 to charities across the country.
This week we caught up with Serena Pomerantz, who leads Events and Marketing for all the Brew Runs in Chicago. When asked why she chose to partner with the Chicago Parks Foundation for this series Serena says, "If you like to be active and outdoors in Chicago, parks are such a huge part of your life."
Serena’s goal is to build a community around each run. She has seen people attend run after run, and even continue with the running series when on vacation in a partner state. Serena has seen friendships grow throughout the runs, and even a possible romantic connection! She’s excited that runners continue to come to the events ready to mingle and make new friends.
One of Serena’s favorite part about the IL Brewery Running Series is that people are able to experience such diverse cultures across Chicago. Not one brewery is the same, and you get to explore Chicago while running.
The running series is also a fun way to start training for the 2017 Bank of America Chicago Marathon.
