Why Goose Island Supports the Parks
In all of our preparation for Camp Northerly this Friday, August 5th, we decided to sit down with our partners at Goose Island Brewing to talk about our love for Chicago’s parks and communities.
CPF: WHY DOES GOOSE ISLAND BREWING SUPPORT CHICAGO’S PARKS?
Zac (Goose Island): Chicago’s our home, and we love the parks because they provide those much needed green spaces. They break up the concrete, giving us a place to enjoy time with our families, play softball, take the dog for a walk, and escape the buzz of everyday life in the city.
HOW DO YOU THINK THE CHICAGO PARKS FOUNDATION BETTERS THE CHICAGO COMMUNITY?
We’re big fans of the Chicago Parks Foundation because the organization advocates for and enriches the parks – but also because they protect them. As our city continues to grow, we think it’s important for current and future communities to have access to these amazing green spaces.
IN WHAT WAYS DOES THE CHICAGO PARKS FOUNDATION FURTHER THE MISSION OF GOOSE ISLAND?
We believe the mission of the Chicago Parks Foundation is quite similar to our own. We’re big on beer education, beer exploration and new beer experiences. The Foundation does the same with respect to the parks.
WHAT’S GOOSE ISLAND FAVORITE THING TO DO IN THE PARKS?
We have some fairly active folks at the brewery. We bike the parks, have a softball team that plays in a league at Eckhart Parkand a tennis group that meets weekly at either Union or Humboldt. If we had to whittle it down to one favorite, it would be barbecuing in the parks; we love it when food and beer get together for consumption.
WHAT’S ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE MEMORIES IN A CHICAGO PARK?
For Goose, we love Pitchfork Music Festival at Union Park. Union is a few blocks from the brewery, so we sneak out early on Friday every year to take in the fest. Personally, my favorite memory of a park is the 4th of July at Winnemac Park. The entire neighborhood gets together to relax and enjoy the fireworks.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED FOR AT CAMP NORTHERLY?
Camping in the city of Chicago is such a unique opportunity. We’re most looking forward to meeting new people over beers, with the city as our backdrop.
