Look Who’s Pitching In: 40th Ward!
In our LOOK WHO’S PITCHING IN story series, the Chicago Parks Foundation will introduce you to the volunteers who are making the 2021 season of Pitch In for the Parks + Green Teams citywide park clean-ups possible.
Today, we meet Alderman Andre Vasquez & the 40th Ward!
Alderman Vasquez of Chicago’s 40th Ward has been Pitching In for the Parks all season long throughout Chicago’s 40th Ward!
The Alderman and the community have cleaned up at Andersonville Playlot, Emmerson Park, Green Briar Park, Mather Park, and Schreiber Park. The Emmerson Park event in July was even featured on WGN News - check it out!
Tell us about Chicago’s 40th Ward!
The 40th Ward is an intentionally inclusive community that practices open government, where neighbors voices are centered.
It encompasses Edgewater, Andersonville, Lincoln Square, Bowmanville, Arcadia Terrace, West Ridge and West Rogers Park!
Why is volunteering for the parks important to your ward?
I believe that parks are where our community comes together. From sports, to just taking time to reflect, to taking our kids out to play, our local parts are crucial part of our ecosystem. By spending the time and effort to invest in our parks, we let our neighbors know we all care about our well-being and safety.
How does your office's mission relate to the work you’re doing with CPF?
Our office is grounded in the philosophy of Open Government, which is Accountable, Accessible, and Transparent. It creates opportunities for people to engage with and thereby learn how their government works. Teaming up with Chicago Parks Foundation gives neighbors a chance to partner up with us to clean up the area. We get to make new connections, build our Neighbor Network, and show folks that we are on the ground and ready to serve.

YOU CAN PITCH IN, TOO!
Help us cover as much park ground as possible this season. The Chicago Parks Foundation’s citywide Pitch In for the Parks volunteer effort equips volunteer with the supplies and support you need to make an impact across our city’s 600+ parks!
Anyone can host a Pitch In clean-up group (free supplies delivered to you) or join a free volunteer event on our calendar. Or schedule a personalized volunteer event for your coworkers with our Green Teams corporate clean-up program. Both programs run June through October 2021.
You can also join us with a gift or become a Chicago Parks Foundation Member! Your support helps make vital park programming like Pitch In for the Parks possible. When you invest in the parks, you invest in the communities who love and depend on them!
